ART EXHIBIT and Sale |
May, 2009
Dear Class of 1974,
It's time to share our personal information with our
classmates before we get together for the Mount Holyoke
Class of '74 Reunion later this month.
It's 2009 and we're more technologically capable than we've
EVER been before--SO....we are going to share our personal
information at this Reunion in a new way...on the Internet!!
For so many Reunions, we relied on a printed version of a "Facebook"
(we did use that term before the now-famous FACEBOOK was
ever created!!), "Picbook", "Pig Book" or whatever we called
it. We had to have our personal data in to the coordinator
MONTHS before the Reunion, and so many of us were left out
of the printed version that was distributed at the Reunion.
Last Reunion, we moved from a printed book to a CD of
photographs--a great step forward. And this time we're going
to share our photographs, life stories and thoughts--about
life or MHC or whatever--through a website page. This is how
it will work:
1. I'm the Reunion Webmaster. I've created a site for this
Reunion here: http://mhc74.com/
2. I've also created a sample page, with some of my
information here: http://mhc74.com/melissathornton.htm
3. The question we are asking is simple: What's your
story...from then till now? What are you doing now...and how
did you get here?
4. Answer that question (within an email or as a Word
attachment), add some pictures, and send it all to me at:
boldcolorlife@gmail.com and I'll build your page and link it
to the site. Please do it now so that it doesn't slip into a
lower priority. If you don't know how to scan pictures, find
a child...find a teen...technology is their first language.
Grins.
5. Please send me information whether you're able to make
the Reunion or not...because even if we can't all make it,
we do want to get caught up with our classmates, right?
6. The site will be available for the next two years, at
least, and probably until our next Reunion so you can always
add information, make changes, keep us up-to-date along the
way. BUT do send me SOMETHING now...just to get your page
up. You can always add more later.
Simple as that.
Warmest of wishes and can't wait to see you all on campus!
Melissa Thornton
PS Please send your information NOW. Grins.
Also, please send any great pictures you have from earlier
Reunions and I'll add them to the Past Reunion page.

Part 2 - MHC '74 Reunion - the inside scoop,
This is what you get for being organized -
Almost as soon as I sent out the
below, I got late-breaking news form the Alum Office, and
things remain fluid -
Changes to my original note below -
1) We are so powerful and important (this is a joke) that
1969 has been
relocated for b'fast and lunch, rather than sharing space
with us. This means
that we are relocating our Class Meeting Saturday morning,
so that it will now
be held IN the dining room, DURING b'fast, but still at 8:30
AM.
2) Registration for ALL begins at 3 PM in Mary Wooley on
Thursday. The noon
registration is available ONLY to Barb and me....(so - if
YOU want to be able to
register EARLY for a FUTURE Reunion - why don't YOU
volunteer to be reunion
chair???) (joke, ladies, another joke)
3) Mary Wooley volunteer schedule has been changed - thanks
to those of you who
volunteered to do this, along with everything else you are
doing - it is greatly
appreciated -
1:30 - 2:30 - Polly Ross (and Jane Antin)
2:30 - 3:30 - Gail LaRocca
3:30 - 4:30 - Mimi Doward
4:30 - 5:30 - Chris Carr
5:30 - 6:30 - Tina Hogan
6:30 - 7:30 - KJ Lewis (and Faith Johnson Bonecutter)
7:30 - 9 - Cathy Trauernicht
4) - Could all on the Mary Wooley list immediately above
please respond to me so
that I know that you have READ this and that it is okay with
you???? Thanks so
much -
5) Would love to cut Cathy's time slot, and to extend our
coverage, if someone
can be at Mary Wooley 8:30 - 9:30., and someone else earlier
than 1:30 ...
6) Can still use more coverage for the Art Show - you don't
have to consider
yourself an artist to do so - just consider yourself
responsible! Please let
Doris or Marylloyd know if you can help out -
7) - Not a change - just yet another reminder to travel
safely -
Warmly - Jane

Subject: MHC '74 Reunion - the inside scoop
Dear Board Members and all of you who have helped and are
continuing to help
with reunion -
First and foremost, very heartfelt thanks to each of you for
helping Barb Gay,
reunion chair, to make this an outstanding Reunion!
I have tried below to put in one place information re: the
weekend. Please take
the time to read all of it. Answers that many of you have
been asking me about
timing, where to be when, etc, are below.
For other stuff that you have questions about, the reunion
schedule is posted
on-line at http://www.alumnae.mtholyoke.edu/reunions/2009.php
(it's a PDF
accessed through "Reunion II program" . See also answers to
FAQ's at
http://www.alumnae.mtholyoke.edu/reunions/FAQReunion2009.php
1) Everyone starts out registering in Mary Wooley. It is
here that dorm and room
keys as well as meal vouchers will be handed out, so - no
Mary Wooley, no room
or board.
2) Our dorm is MacGregor. All of our meals and all of our
class activities will
be in MacGregor, with the exception of class photo, which is
is outside, right
next door on the steps to Ham (at 1:45 on Saturday.)
3) Thursday - registration in Mary Wooley opens in Room 202
for Class Officers
only, and continues there until 3 PM. I plan on being on
campus well before 3
PM, so - if you are not a class officer and arrive and can't
yet register, give
me a call (cell = 781-752-5278.) I will most likely be in
MacGregor, and will
welcome your company - oh, yeah - and your help!
4) Registration for everyone else, as well as for class
officers arriving after
3 PM, is in the main, big room (I have no idea what the name
of the room is - )
in Mary Wooley, and is open until 8 PM on Thursday.
5) If you are staying on campus Thursday night - yes, it
will be in MacGregor
and yes, it will be in the same room you are in for the rest
of the weekend.
6) Friday - Mary Wooley registration - open from 9 AM - 10
PM
We will staff our class registration table here, but sorely
need more help.
Below is the schedule as it now stands. If you volunteered
and you can't be
there for your time slot, please let me know. It would be
good if we could cut
these time slots to an hour, and if we could have 2 people
on at a time, but
that would require YOU to volunteer. . please let me know if
you can help
out!!!! The area will be staffed by Alum Assoc people who
will be able to answer
most questions. Our role is to welcome our classmates and
help them from feeling
confused or lost. I will plan on being there before 1:30 to
help Polly get
started, and then we will just hand off one to the next.
(NOTE - this is NOT
the MacGregor bell desk schedule - Deb Orgera has sent that
out separately)
1:30 - 3 - Polly Ross
3 - 4:30 - Mimi Doward
4:30 - 6 - Chris Carr
6 - 7:30 - KJ Lewis Jennings
7:30 - 9 - Diane Claffey
7) Art Show and sale opens 2 - 6:30 on Friday, with setup in
the morning and
will be in the RA's (lockable) apartment on the first floor
of MacGregor - Barb
or I will get the key when we register, and then most likely
hand it off to
Doris and Marylloyd.
8) Friday informal dinner - in MacGregor - open to ALL in
our class - no charge
9) Saturday - Mary Wooley registration remains open, 8 AM -
1 PM
10) Class meeting - 8:30 - THIS WILL START ON TIME so that
we can finish and get
to the parade on time - be there or be square, please! -
MacGregor living room -
note - unlike previous reunions, it was NOT possible to
schedule this to run
concurrently with b'fast, b/c we are sharing the dining
room, for b'fast and
lunch (NOT for dinner) with 1969, who will be staying in
Ham.
The following will be asked to speak at the meeting
(consider this your official
notification of such, Debby, Jane, Chris, Kate, and Deb O!!!
Denise - you and I
already talked abut this)
1) Debby and Jane - report on '74's contirbution to AAF
2) Chris - brief treasurer's report - also, a spiel re:
dues for the next 5
years - how much, pay now, etc, etc, (this is likely to
be done in 2 parts -
part 1 = treasurer's report, part 2 = spiel re: dues)
3) Kate - brief reading of minutes from last reunion
(and Kate - will you
please continue to take notes form this meeting, please)
4) Deb O - presentation of the proposed slate of new
officers
5) Denise - remembrance of deceased classmates
11) 9:45 - line up for Parade
12) Art Show open 12 - 4 (with a brief closing to
accommodate the class photo at
1:45) (NOTE - We would love to have this open longer into
the afternoon and
early evening, up until diner. . .. but we don't have
staffing to do so -
Please let Doris and Marylloyd know if you can spare an hour
- we can't have the
gallery open unless we have it supervised. .. . )
13) 1:45 - class photo - steps of Ham
15) 4 - 5 - Passing the Generational Baton - symposium
organized by Cathy
Trauernicht about our current life challenges, including,
but not limited to,
STILL being in the "sandwich generation", as well as the
changes that are
occurring n our lives- in MacGregor living room -
16) 5:15 - Mary Lyon - in MacGregor (but not in the living
room, so set-up
won't conflict with symposium)
17) 6 - cocktails, followed immediately by dinner - in
MacGregor
18) entertainment - immediately following dinner, in
MacGregor living room
19) Sunday - Art Show open 9 - 11 AM
20) Be sure and do your "homework (not my term!! That was
provided by another
Board member - ) and send Melissa ( boldcolorlife@gmail.com
) your page for our
on-line mug book!!!!! (Directions were sent out, via e-mail,
last week - contact
Melissa directly if you need more info)
21) remember your white attire (I still don't know what I am
wearing) and your
red accessory (THAT I have in place!)
22) Let me know what I left out of this, that you still need
to know!
23) Travel carefully and safely.
Warmly - Jane

March
3, 2009
Dear ’74 Classmates-
Twelve weeks and counting! That’s
when we’ll see you in South Hadley for our 35th
Reunion. We need some of your time and ideas now, though,
even if you won’t be able to join us.
Our on-line class survey, designed for our parade signs and
to help make our symposium. “Passing the Intergenerational
Baton” reflective of and meaningful to you, has had a
phenomenal response rate from our classmates. But - the
most important response is still missing; we haven’t heard
from YOU!
We’ve listened to the early
respondent, many of whom have commented that the survey is
fun to take. We have incorporated the suggestions made by
them and so you get to take a survey better even than the
original one! But we are still waiting to hear from you.
Our survey closes on March 10. Won’t you please take a few
moments now to click on the linkbelow and share your
thoughts?
All answers are completely
confidential, no answer must be answered, and you do not
have to complete the entire survey in one session. You can
go back into it and your already posted responses will still
be there. Just be sure to get it submitted by March 10. We
look forward to seeing you in South Hadley. Reunion
information should be in your mail box within a couple of
weeks.
Warmly,
Jane Homan Antin

March 1, 2009
Dear
Classmates,
It’s
March, it’s freezing in New England, and we’ll see each
other in the next “M” month, and it will be warm and sunny.
It will be warm and sunny because we will be together in
South Hadley for our 35th Reunion, May 29-31, and
there will be no papers due or exams looming. It wouldn’t be
MHC, however, without high expectations of each of you!
Whether you have been to every reunion or to none,
this reunion will be the best because we expect to see
you there.
- Read
all in this mailing, and return all necessary forms.
Register by April 17 to avoid the $25 late fee.
Register even if you are not 100% sure you can come;
you can cancel up until May 14 for a complete refund.
-
We are very aware of the financial turmoil going on.
Our class, in an effort to make this Reunion as
affordable as possible, is NOT CHARGING
the usual “costume fee” (fear not – we will have
awesome costumes! See more on this below.), nor
are we charging to attend Friday night’s dinner (but
we do want to know if you’ll be attending, so we
have enough food!). In addition, if you register by
April 17 and attend Reunion, you will be entered
into a Class of ’74 lottery for a $100
credit towards your cost of attending. So – do read
on, and do register. Reunion will be a wonderful
success, but only if you are there!
-
Of particular note – PLEASE include on the
reservation form any housing issues you may have,
being as specific as possible and, if you wish,
including the name of a roommate. Luisa Tavares
(413-538-2201,
ltavares@mtholyoke.edu) is the Reservation
Coordinator for the weekend.
- Contact 4 of your best friends from ‘74 and encourage
each of them to come. If you’ve lost contact information
for someone, Alumnae Information Services (413-538-2303,
or
ais@mtholyoke.edu) will help you.
- Round up something white and fabulous – or not so
fabulous – the fashion police will NOT be in attendance,
but white attire is required for the class count – to
wear Saturday AM. Dress, skirt, pants, shorts – it’s
all good. Our class has consistently been a contender
for attendance awards – let’s keep up the tradition!
- Even
though our class color is red, let’s be as green as
possible at this reunion. We are planning a beautiful
red item to be the basis for our costume, but we ask
that you complete the look by bringing your favorite red
accessory from home. It might be a scarf, or shoes, or a
necklace, or the
red reading glasses from our 25th reunion, or a
hat or a visor. Many of us have gotten to that point in
our life when we have all the stuff we really want
or need. Let’s reuse and recycle and see how creative we
can be!
- Pack
comfortable shoes (you are no longer 22 years old!)
- Debbie Hall and Jane Zimmy, our head class agents,
remind us that all gifts to the Alumnae Association
Annual Fund are important, now more than ever.
Supporting this fund is honoring the school, her
students, her heritage and her future. Our goal is to
have 74% of our class make a gift (get it?) totaling
$225,000. To date, 33% have given a total of $120,000.
All that is missing is a gift from you. And we
really are more interested in the 74% than the dollar
amount. Contact Ashley Brown in the Development Office
(1-800-MHC-GIVE) or
www.mtholyoke.edu/go/mhcgive
- Deb
Orgera and our Nominating Committee have made many phone
calls, spoken to many classmates for recommendations and
references, culminating in the following slate of
officers to serve from May ’09 - 14, to be voted on at
our Class Meeting, Saturday morning of Reunion. Please
take the time to read it over now.
President: Carole LaMond Vice President: Deb Orgera Treasurer: Christine Carr
Secretary: Doris O’Keefe Scribe: Lynn Massman Mordan Web Diva: Laurie Avrill
Nominating Chairs: Paula Gerden, Flo Chichester and Committee: Kate
Pappas, Melissa
Thornton
Reunion Chair: Jane Homan
Antin Head Class Agents: Debby Hall,
Jane Zimmy
- Plan
on enjoying the beautiful campus and all that is offered
while you are in South Hadley. It may not look as it
did the last time you were here. Have you seen the new
dorm everyone is raving about? We hear the laundry room
is to-die for! Tours will be available throughout the
weekend.
- Plan
on attending with your best buds some of the extra
events the Alumnae Association has planned for the
weekend.
- Come to campus on Thursday and spend the night.
Then, you will be all set to start off the weekend
relaxed (when was the last time you treated yourself
to that feeling?) and attend the cooking
demonstration and buffet dinner in Willets-Hallowell
on Thursday evening, and be settled in and ready to
go on Friday.
- Want to add to your already enormous range of
knowledge? Or just have fun? Check out the enclosed
Back-to-Class pamphlet. Additional information about
the Friday classes is available at
www.alumnae.mtholyoke.edu/go/reunion .
- Want to hear from President Creighton about the
latest and greatest? Join her for lunch on Friday.
- On Friday evening, meet your favorite professor (are
any of them left on campus 35 years later??? Well –
come talk with their protégés!) at the
Alumnae/Faculty/Emeriti Faculty Reception in Kendade
(you have seen Kendade, haven’t you?)
- Check out our new Reunion website,
www.mhc74.com, celebrating who we are. Melissa
Thornton has designed this site with a page for each of
us to use to share and to tell our own stories.
Directions for your input will be coming to you via
e-mail (if we have a valid e-mail address for you. Do
we? Contact Class Scribe Carole LaMond at
CLaMond@aol.com with an update) or snail mail, if we
must. The site will be under construction right up until
reunion, and even afterward, so we can continue to use
this venue to share.
- And
of course, enjoy all our 1974 planned activities Reunion
Weekend, as we celebrate MHC of yesterday and today.
- Mary Lyon will be coming to talk with us on Saturday
afternoon (I kid you not), our very own V-8’s from
the ‘70’s of yesteryear, but in fine form in 2009,
will perform for us Saturday evening, as will
Michelle Hurst and Bonnie Panson. Coming off
the heels of their successful performance at our
2007 South Hadley mini-reunion, Bonnie and Michelle
have written and will present “Coming of Age,” a
poetic journey from the girls we were, to the
amazing women we have become, and on to the divas we
will be. And to think – we knew them when!
- Cathy Trauernicht is organizing a symposium,
“Passing the Generational Baton,” tying together the
yesterdays, todays, and tomorrows of our lives. If
you have professional experience in
intergenerational relationships, please contact
Cathy (cwtrau@verizon.net)
as this is a work in progress.
- We are hoping to have a Class of '74 Art Show over
the weekend. Complete and return the enclosed Art
Show Response Form and/or visit our class
web-site for complete information. http://www.alunae.mtholyoke.edu/~classof1974/?Stay_Connected/Reunion_Arts_Exhibit.
- You
will be able to register for reunion 2009:
This system is behind
authentication so your personal information is protected and
only MHC alumnae have access to it. If you are not yet a
member of the on-line community, you will need to register
using the 9-digit security ID code printed on your mailing
label. The web-site has simple directions on screen, to be
followed; however, if you have any questions or problems,
Luisa Tavares (413-538-2201) is there to help you, Monday –
Friday, 9AM-4PM, EST.
o
Mail-In:
Use the enclosed paper form.
·
If we are
assigned to a dorm not to your liking (dorm assignments will
be made right after the April 17 deadline), check out the
Hampton Inn in Chicopee (412-593-1500, refer to Group Code
SMT) as an alternative. The Alumnae Association has reserved
a limited number of rooms for May 28, 29, and 30 at the rate
of $119 plus tax per night, with a 3 night reservation
required.
·
Continue the
excitement leading up to Reunion Weekend in South Hadley.
Log on to
www.alumnae.mtholyoke.edu/go/reunion and
o
find e-cards to
send to your classmates, encouraging them to come – find
pictures of campus and old Llamarada pictures to share.
o
join an
existing discussion group or start a new one to connect
with classmates – maybe find out who’s rooming with whom,
who is resurrecting her graduation dress for Saturday
morning, and encourage each other to come, so it will be
special for you.
o
In addition, the
Alumnae Association will post videos and stills of the
weekend, for all to enjoy.
Questions?
Contact the Alumnae Association at 413-538-2159.
Congratulations! You made it
this far! Now, contact your girl friends, get your red
accessory, and register!
Warmly,

February, 2009
Dear Classmates,
Our 35th Reunion is fast approaching – but you know that,
you’ve had your May 29 – 31, 2009 frig magnet up for a few
of months now! And, in another month or so, you’ll receive a
snail-mail packet of all the low-down for planning for the
weekend.
In the mean time, though – we need your help. We are still
looking for “a few good women” (but we’ll welcome a lot of
good women!) to lend a small amount of time to help make
this a wonderful reunion for all.
Our “to-do” list follows. Please let me know (jantin1@partners.org,
or 617-632-3154) that you will give an hour or two of your
time to help us. Call your roommate and agree to help out
together!
1) Bring i-pod speakers and 70’s music to help us get in the
groove as we sit bells and welcome each other into our dorm.
(We have volunteers to “sit bells” – we just need you to
help provide the music!)
2) Welcome our classmates in Mary Woolley Hall as we arrive
for registration. We are looking for just an hour or two of
your time on Friday.
3) Has it been a while since you got to show off your skills
decorating a bulletin board? Do show us what you’ve
accomplished in this field and agree to help us decorate the
dorm!
4) We are hoping to have a Class of ’74 Art Show over the
weekend. But – we need help – we would like more artists and
also need someone to help organize this, working with the
college for set-up, and in-dorm advertising. For all the
info and to sign up for the event, see our class web site
http://www.alumnae.mtholyoke.edu/~classof1974/?Stay_Connected/Reunion_Arts_Exhibit.
5) We will be holding a symposium over Reunion Weekend,
“Passing the Generational Baton,” as many of us struggle
with the demands of developing lives, caring for lives,
losing lives, and loving lives. Cathy Trauernicht is
generously giving her time and skill to organize this event,
but it is a work in progress, so if you have professional
experience in intergenerational relationships, please
contact her (cwtrau@verizon.net). Even if you think you have
nothing to contribute or time to spare, we would appreciate
hearing from you, even if just to talk and share ideas.
6) A personal plea from me: do you have a favorite MHC girl
friend story you would share with me? Please drop me a line!
Thanks for considering helping to make this a great reunion
for all of ’74!
Warmly,
